Specialist Services
The Perseus process demands that security is approached dynamically. Introducing innovative analysis and design techniques which add value is part of the Perseus service.
Human Factors Analysis and Planning
Analyzing and understanding the place of human limitations in a security scenario is a critical component of security architecture. Using psychologists experienced in working in security environments, Perseus can provide a unique understanding of how human factors can deal with security environments and situation. It is has established expertise in the following areas:
- The security environment.
- Security systems and operator functionality.
- Product design and integration with other technology and processes.
- Responding to emergencies and recognising security situations.
- Command and Control.
The appearance of an environment, its physical protection and general security will influence the actions of an intended threat. However, such environments must fulfill their intended commercial or functional purpose without alarm.
- Information Architecture (IA) Planning. IA planning assembles competing information requirements into coherent structures which enables correct information to be solicited from the environment. Providing clear, accurate, general and retail information, blended with the appropriate phased introduction of critical security information is achieved with expert and innovative planning.
- Cognitive Planning. Dealing with security challenges requires us to understand how people will perform under stress and over time given existing latent factors and influencers. Conventional planning concentrates on relatively benign environments failing to take account of the effect of performance degradation. Equipment functionality, process and environment all affect efficiency in proportion to the human ability to deal with it. Cognitive planning identifies how human efficiency can be maintained under predicted stress and environment conditions. See diagram below.
- Security and Human Performance. The understanding of dealing with security in built environments is a complex area. Security personnel must be aware of how to compensate for limitations in influencing this environment. Their appearance and actions must be compatible with local population attitudes. Security personnel should balance the requirement to provide reassurance and deterrence without introducing unnecessary intimidation.
Ethnography. Research and experience shows that security plans which deliver cost effective solutions and contribute to wider commercial requirements have studied the environment and the place of humans within it. Perseus uses the process of Ethnography to analyse the activities and journey’s of security staff and local populations, ensuring that environments are matched to requirements and that a common vision and understanding is established.

Training
An integral part of security solutions is the provision of training. Identifying and establishing training requirements at strategic, management and operator levels is vital if security situations are to be avoided or identified. Perseus personnel have expertise in:
- Capturing Training Needs Analysis. Developing courses, programmes and practical exercise to improve collective performance in a range of security environments.
- Command and control map based decision exercises to practice key staff and identify procedural improvement.
- Recreating precise (not simulated) scenarios, which have wide use in the training of emergency service personnel and key corporate individuals and staff.
Perseus can develop highly accurate CGI training scenario models to:
- Familiarise external emergency services, particularly first responders.
- Plan post scenario response contingencies.
- Practise internal security and response personnel.
- Demonstrate emergency response procedures to staff and personnel.
Disaster Management
Perseus can assist in the formulation of disaster management plans by accurately recreating pre–disaster surveys. Emergency services can have access to precise information on the location of key equipment, resources and access points and the use of effective prediction analysis allows recovery and continuity plans to be created from an informed post–scenario perspective.
Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN)
The security challenges we face now extend to the unimaginable of just a few years ago. Perseus has the capability to advise organizations on preparing for CBRN scenarios and training its personnel on CBRN procedures.
Remote Client Access
Retaining information and ensuring it remains current and valid is a significant problem. Perseus can arrange for hosting of the analysis data remotely making it available to its clients on demand. If appropriate it can be streamed to authorised locations without the need for specialist software or training.
